He told students that in order to be a writer it's important to be curious about all subjects.He talked about the research he does for all of his books including his series about Neil Flambé, a fourteen-year-old famous chef who also lives a secret life as a detective, code-named "The Nose."
Kevin Sylvester also read from his book, MiNRS which tells the story of space miners on the planet Perses.
Using triangles and circles as examples, the author and illustrator showed how drawing is based on math you would learn in geometry class. He advised students to never erase what they may think are mistakes in their drawings but rather work those "mistakes" into their art.
