Mrs. Plaitin with author Kevin Sylvester getting books signed for our library. |
Author Kevin Sylvester visited Carman Collegiate on Wednesday, September 28
to speak to students about writing and illustrating.
He told students
that in order to be a writer it's important to be curious about all subjects. He
talked about the research he does for all of his books including his series
about Neil Flambé, a fourteen-year-old famous chef who also lives a secret life
as a detective, code-named "The Nose."
Kevin Sylvester also read from
his book, MiNRS which tells the story of space miners on the planet
Perses.
Using triangles and circles as examples, the author and
illustrator showed how drawing is based on math you would learn in geometry
class. He advised students to never erase what they may think are mistakes in
their drawings but rather work those "mistakes" into their art.
