MPI Friends for Life Presentation
On Friday, November 18, our school welcomed Amanda Stuhl Oling to present to our grade 7 to 12 students. Amanda’s presentation combined her own heart breaking personal story with her expertise from a 15 year career in law enforcement. She expertly described how the crash changed her and her family’s lives forever, impacted at least two communities, affected the impaired driver’s family and friends, caused financial hardships, and even broke up friendships. All this because a 19-year-old made the wrong choice – to drive after a night of drinking. Amanda did not reveal until near the end of her presentation that it was her father who was killed that night, which makes this presentation even more unique.
Students at the end of the presentation were allowed to sign a Friends for Life poster that is now hanging in our main hall.

them with information to make informed career choices related to skilled trade
and technology occupations.
The presentation

and technology, information about successful career planning, real life success
stories, plus employability skills.

Discovery Days

Book Donation to JA Cuddy
Carman Collegiate Grade 7 students Coltyn P, Lexie N and Lily P delivered 614 books to JA Cuddy School students in Sanford on November 1.
The students organized a campaign to collect books for students displaced from the elementary school in Sanford because of a fire this summer that caused damage to their school.
The Carman Collegiate students would like to thank the community for their support including Carman Elementary school students who donated books at their school and to Boyne Regional Library patrons who dropped off books at the town library.
JA Cuddy School Principal Scott Thomson, Librarian Lori Dufresne and some JA Cuddy students were on hand to receive the books.
"These JA Cuddy students represent all of our school in thanking you," Thomson told the Carman students.
Dufresne said with the books and similar donations, including through the Indigo Adopt a School program, the school now has enough books to add to each of their temporary classrooms and to expand the school library, including replacing damaged books, when the school re-opens. Half of the school is expected to re-open in the coming weeks.
Girls in Agriculture Conference
Last year, Gabrielle M, Amber U, Ashley D, Linda P, Deanna U & Caressa V won the Ag in the Classroom Gen Ag competition for their proposal to promote Agriculture careers to girls. They won grant money to put on an Ag Career fair and have been planning this event since September.
On Wednesday, November 9, Gr. 9-10 girls will participate in the event until lunch. During lunch, there will be an opportunity for all students to participate in an Ag career scavenger hunt for prizes.
