New Semester Begins Monday

Our exam period ended on Thursday for our grade 9 to 12 students.  Grade 9 to 12 report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, February 9 at the end of the day.  Semester 2 courses begin on Monday.
Today saw our grade 9 to 12 teachers marking exams and working on their report cards.  Our middle years teachers delved into GAfE - Google Applications for Education, and the many interesting tools offered by that online resource.

Ag Days in Brandon

Our grade 8 students made their annual trek to Brandon for the Brandon Ag Days on Thursday, January 21.  Our students explored the exhibits while on an amazing Ag race to find different booths that would answer their questions to a mystery they were provided with.  Our students had a great time and enjoyed the adventure.

Family Studies Presentation

On Tuesday,
January 19th Dr. Chantelle Hercina, a Family Practitioner from Steinbach Family Medical, spent the morning with the Grade 12 Family Studies class. She guest lectured on Labour & Delivery, ran a Question and Answer session with the class, and brought in some models for demonstrations. The Family Studies 40S students enjoyed having an opportunity to ask questions and draw connections between family, science, and medicine.

New Websites

My Students in the Middle Years: A Parent Resource:
As parents, you are important leaders and partners in the life and learning of your young adolescent children as they progress through the Middle Years in school.

Adolescence is the time of life between childhood and adulthood. Middle Years students are young adolescents, typically aged 10 to 14 and in Grades 5 to 8. While young adolescents are sometimes called junior high students, the term Middle Years is used more widely for this age group in schools around the world, so Manitoba Education and Advanced Learning uses this term in all its teacher/parent resources.

By recognizing the changes and challenges your adolescent children experience during their Middle Years, you can help them be successful at school, at home and in the community.

This website offers parents of Middle Years students information about:
  • the changes young adolescents experience,
  • suggestions and resources to assist parents in helping their children be successful in the Middle Years,
  • a list of community supports available to assist families (social agencies, 24-hour phone lines), and
  • insightful comments from Middle Years students and their parents (direct quotes).
The site can be visited at http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/midyears/parents/index.html, or go to the bottom of the links section at the bottom of the sidebar on the Carman Collegiate home page.

Everyone Matters Manitoba Youth Suicide Prevention:
This website has been developed to provide school administrators, staff, parents, students and communities with the most up-to-date information about youth suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention support.  This site can be visited at http://everyonemattersmanitoba.ca/ or by going to the Carman Collegiate website and scrolling to the bottom right under links.
