Spirit Week

This was spirit week at Carman Collegiate.  Thank you to all the students and staff who dressed up and showed their school spirit.  Thursday was grade wars where the grade had to compete to make clothes out of newspapers.  Thursday night saw over 110 students dance the night away.  Halloween was costume day.

Carman Student 1 of 3 in Canada off to Ottawa

Bailey G. has been selected as 1 of 3 students from across Canada to be feature at Canada's premier Agricultural Conference: Grow Canada in Ottawa (Dec. 2-4).  Students will have the opportunity to express their opinions and views to an audience of 500 conference delegates.
She was selected for her agricultural background, submitting a well written essay, and for her enthusiasm and speaking ability during a telephone interview

Take Our Kids To Work

Carman Collegiate Grade 9 students received a T-Shirt to wear on T.O.K.T.W. Day.  T.O.K.T.W. is a Canadian Career Initiative that takes place on November 5, 2014. 

Family Movie Night this Thursday

 
 
 
Family Movie Night is back on Thursday, November 6 with Guardians of the Galaxy.  Show time is 7 pm.  Cost is $5 per person or $15 per family.  Popcorn and water are $1 each. 
 
 
About 65 people enjoyed Plane - Fire and Rescue last Wednesday.  November 13 will have Divergent showing.

Spirit Week

Student Council is pleased to be hosting spirit week from October 27 to 31.

Monday - Cougar Pride Day
Tuesday - Twin Day and Gender Bender Day
Wednesday - Senior Citizen's Day, PJ, Messy Hair and Hat Day
Thursday - Grade Wars, show your colours
Friday - Costume Day and Black and Orange Day

Student Council is hosting a school dance on Thursday, October 30 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.  Cost is $5 for student members and $6 for non-student members.

Girls in Gaming

Grade 7, 8 and 9 students met Thursday, Oct. 23 to take part in a Girls in Gaming session. Tara Brown, a technology teacher from Red River College, spoke about the use of technology in our society, technology careers and about the Business Information Technology course offered through Red River College.  Robin and Sandy Debreuil taught the students how to create artwork in Flash and then bring the artwork into a program called Pixate which allowed them to create a prototype of a phone app.  It was a fun day and we hope to have another session in the future.

Family Movie Night is Back!

Family Movie Night returns on Wednesday, October 29 with the showing of Planes Fire and Rescue.  Show time is 7:00 pm.  Arrive early to get you popcorn.  Cost is $5 per person or $15 for the family.  This is a philanthropy group fundraiser.

MPPC UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE FAIR

The grade 11 and 12 students from Carman, Elm Creek, and Miami had an exceptional opportunity to attend university and college presentations on October 23.  They were able to speak with representatives from the University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, Brandon University, Canadian Mennonite University, Providence College, Red River College, Assiniboine Community College, Booth University/College, and the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology as Carman Collegiate hosted the annual MPPC University/College fair. These presentations are informative for students planning post-secondary education, and it provided options and inspiration for others who are undecided.  Thank you to all the post-secondary institutions.

Central Manitoba Youth Choir Scholarship goes to Carman Student

Congratulations to Zack H, recipient of the Provincials Honors Choir Scholarship from the Central Manitoba Youth Choir. 

Check out the CMYC performance tonight at 7:30 pm at the United Church in Carman.  Carman Collegiate students Zack H and William A are part of the Choir performing around the region over the next three days. 

Eva Olsson Holocaust Presentation

The Carman Collegiate Community Theatre was pleased to host Eva Olsson Tuesday evening for a presentation to the public.  Dr. Olsson shared her story of living through the horrors of the holocaust, and her beliefs to why people did this.  She then returned Wednesday and presented to grade 5 to 8 students in the morning and grade 9 to 12 students in the afternoon.  She shared her opinion on why people bully others, and gave a very touching plea to students to be kind and understanding to their peers.

Safe Workers of Tomorrow

Carman Collegiate Grade 9 students participated in a Safe Workers of Tomorrow Presentation on October 15, in preparation for the Canada's annual "Take Our Kid to Work" day on November 5, 2014.  "Take Our Kids To Work" is a Career Initiative for all Grade 9 students from across Canada, to experience a day at work through attending the work place with their parent, host or volunteer. 
The Grade 11 students attended a Safe Workers of Tomorrow one day training session in preparation for further career advancement, this initiative is created through the CTS Program. 
The Safe Workers of Tomorrow Presentations provide information to students in regard to health and safety issues, workplace hazards as well as proactive methods to prevent injuries while in the workplace. 
Thank you to our local businesses who allowed are students to visit their workplaces and conduct safety audits.

Graduation 2015 Parent Meeting

Parents and Grad 2015 students are invited to an informational meeting on Wednesday, October 29 at 5:15 pm in the Carman Collegiate Community Theatre.  At email was sent out to parents regarding this meeting along with an agenda.

Welcome Eva Olsson

The public are welcome to join us Tuesday evening in the Carman Collegiate Community Theatre to hear Eva Olsson present on her experiences as a Holocaust survivor, and the message of standing up for peace and justice.  Eva will also be presenting to our students on Wednesday during the day.

2013 - 2014 Yearbooks Are In!

The Carman Collegiate 2013 - 2014 "Piece by Piece" Yearbooks have been delivered to students who ordered them.  Congratulation to Ms. Armstrong, Amanda M, and the yearbook staff on another excellent production.
If you did not order a 2013-2014 yearbook but would like one please contact the office as there are a limited number of extras available.
Work has already begun on the 2014-2015 yearbook which will have the theme, "Remember When".  
We are please to have students on our yearbook staff representing Grades 7-12 this year. If you are interested in working on yearbook you can speak to Ms. Armstrong in the library. We generally meet Wednesdays over the lunch hour in the Grade 8 room behind Mrs. Sigurdson's class. Listen for announcements each week.

Youth Olympic Games Presentation on Wednesday, October 8

Jay O will be presenting to our students in the afternoon, and then to community in the evening on Wednesday, October 8.  Jay will share his experiences of competing at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China this summer where he captured first in the B side championship of the 3000 m race, and also established a new personal best at that distance. 
The evening presentation will start at 7:00 pm in the Carman Collegiate Community Theatre and is open to all community.  Please come out and hear a great success story of one of our own.
