The Student Council put together an excellent spirit week that included, a dance, costumes, door decorating and grade wars - thanks to everyone that participated !
On Wednesday afternoon the collegiate was fortunate to host Craig Heisinger. Craig is the Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations for the Winnipeg Jets. Mr. Heisinger came to Carman to speak about his dear friend Rick Rypien and the struggles he had with mental health while being apart of the Manitoba Moose and into his NHL career. We left the presentation knowing we need to talk and reach out to others when we are not feeling well and there is no stigma attached to mental illness. Thank you to Mrs. Ens for organizing this event !
Thank you so much to the Canadian Blood Services for travelling to Carman in order to complete a blood typing session over the lunch hour. We look forward to hosting a blood drive on October 27th here at the Collegiate !
Mrs. Ens grade 8 ELA class was successfull in their reading log so they had a chip tasting contest. The final result was a tie between Brock W and Slade S who had a chip off that was won by Slade. Great activity and definitely not easy !
On Thursday September 28th the Collegiate staff and Students participated in the Annual Terry Fox Run. The event kicked off on Monday with an assembly MC'd by Hannah P. where Mrs. Thompson and Mrs Sigurdson spoke about their experiences with cancer and the Terry Fox Foundation.
Author Stacey Matson visited the Carman Collegiate Community Theatre on Wednesday, September 27th. Author of the Arthur Bean trilogy, Ms. Matson spoke to Grade 7-9 Carman Collegiate students and Grade 5 and 6 Carman Elementary students about her life as a writer. She visited the school as part of the Winnipeg International Writers Festival, know as Thin Air.
On Friday Mrs. Rouire's grade 10 French Class played "HeadBands" - The class thoroughly enjoyed exploring using new french terms and sentences to describe eachothers character.
On Thursday Septemebr 28th we will participating in our annual Terry Fox Run, students are asked to collect pledges and can turn them in directly to Kyla in the office.
